Hypnosis has been used for many decades as an effective adjunct to conventional childbirth processes and in more recent years has been subject to research designed to establish how effective it can be in complementing more traditional approaches.

Subjectively, many mothers who have used hypnosis to assist with their pregnancies and deliveries have reported much more satisfying experiences and a greater sense of bonding with their child. Hypnotherapy can also assist in naturally turning a breech presenting child and managing many of the minor but irksome symptoms of pregnancy.
Research is also starting to show that hypnosis can have a significant role within fertility treatment. A case-control clinical study reported in Fertility & Sterility, the Official Journal of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, concluded that:
